A three-man accreditation team from National Postgraduate Medical College, Lagos, was in the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku/Ozalla, Enugu to accredit the Department of Ophthalmology, from Tuesday, 5th to Thursday 7th September.
After arrival on the 5th, the team which was made up of three consultant ophthalmologists, commenced the accreditation exercise with a courtesy call on the Chief Medical Director in his office, on Wednesday, the 6th, in the company of other doctors in the department of Ophthalmology, including the Head of Department, Prof Ada Aghaji.

While addressing the CMD, the Chairperson of the team, Prof Regina Morgan, from the National Hospital, Abuja informed the Management that they’re on a mission from the college, in her words, “we are in UNTH to access the facilities used in the training of Residents, and to point out areas for improvement.”
In his response, the CMD, Prof Obinna Onodugo who was represented by the former C(CMAC) Prof Val Ugwu, assured the visitors that the Management will continue to support the various departments in the hospital to meet up with the standards and requirements which will enable them to pass accreditation”. He argued that accreditation exercises are opportunities for the Management to meet some needs of departments, with accreditation visits in view.
He also assured them that they would have unrestricted access to areas of interest for the exercise.

Other members of the team are Prof Yemi Fasina from UCH, Ibadan, and Prof Lawal Abdul, from ABU, Zaria.
