The Chief Medical Director, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, ITuku/Ozalla, Prof. Obinna Onodugo, has urged the staff of the institution to always adhere to public service rules with good conscience. He made this statement on December 17, 2024, during the 4th Quarter Town Hall Meeting held at the Senior Staff Cafeteria.

In his address, Prof. Onodugo outlined the measures management has implemented to ensure smooth service delivery, security, and safety of lives and properties in the hospital. He encouraged staff to complement these efforts by putting in their best in service delivery to patients.

He also said that surveillance cameras have been installed at various points in the hospital to enhance security.

Speaking further, Prof. Onodugo announced that “starting from January 2025, there will be zero tolerance to lateness, absenteeism, and loitering during working hours.” He pleaded with everyone to take responsibility for their respective roles and avoid behaviors that tarnish the hospital’s image. Staff were also reminded to always wear their ID cards for easy identification.

Lecture by the former DA, Mr Jery Nwankwo

Earlier in the meeting, a short lecture was delivered by the immediate past Director of Administration, Mr. Jerry Nwankwo, on “Building a Successful Career in Civil Service.” He pointed out the essential steps needed by civil servants to build a successful career in the civil service. In his lecture, Mr. Nwankwo said that “the characteristics of a good civil servant should include self-performance evaluations, maintaining a positive attitude towards work, and the ability to learn.

Fire Awareness & Prevention Lecture by UNTH Environmental Officer Mr Njeze & Officers of the Fire Service

The Town Hall Meeting also featured a fire awareness and prevention presentation by men and officers of the Enugu State Fire Service. Earlier, the hospital’s Environmental Officer Mr. Chuka Njeze, had highlighted the causes of fire outbreaks, such as heat, fuel, and bush burning. The team further advised staff on electrical management in the office and the need to always switch off all electrical gadgets before leaving their offices.

Also speaking during the questions and answers session, the Deputy Director, Finance and Accounts, Mr. Emmanuel Okoro, acknowledged some of the financial concerns raised by staff and promised that positive steps are being taken by management to address them.

The highlights of the day included the rendition of the new National Anthem and a short skit presented by the Public Relations Unit of the hospital.

Prof. Salome Ezeofor; Deputy CMAC, Dr. Wilfred Ukemenam (Outpatient and Emergency services); and Deputy CMAC, Dr. Nkiru Nwachukwu (Theatre and Inpatient services); Dr. Obinna Okwesili, SSA to CMD and Head, Project and Partnership Management Office; heads of department; and some members of staff.
