Profile of The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Obinna Onodugo

Dr Obinna D. Onodugo, is the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku Ozalla, Enugu. He holds an MBBS degree, Membership of West African college of Physicians, Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians, MBA in Business Administration, and a Fellowship in Public Administration. Before he became the CMD of UNTH Ituku Ozalla, he had been a Lecturer and Consultant Nephrologist with the College of Medicine of the University of Nigeria (UNN), and the UNTH Ituku Ozalla. He is very hard working and focused, and has held numerous positions of trust.

He is a past chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Enugu State; former National Executive Council member of the National NMA, and National NMA chairman, Committee on Telemedicine. He is a former chairman of UNTH Hospital Accreditation Committee, which was tirelessly overseeing the continuous accreditation of the different clinical and non-clinical units/departments of the hospital. He has held other committee positions both at the college of medicine UNN, and UNTH Ituku-Ozalla.

Dr. Onodugo was the initiator and co-founder of Consortium for Advocacy and Research, CADRE. He was an Executive member (Ex-officio) of the Nigerian Association of Nephrologists, Member of the African Association of Nephrologists, and Member of the International Society of Nephrologists. He is still the Patron of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS), and staff adviser to the Medical Students Research and Humanitarian Society (MEDRHUS). Dr. Onodugo has received numerous community service awards (stemming from many community-based activities, founding and chairing many youth groups). He has delivered numerous public health enlightenment seminars for many communities, schools, churches and media houses, and has a number of peer reviewed publications in local and international journals.

Before joining the top management of UNTH Ituku Ozalla, he was the Chairman, Medical Advisory Council (CMAC) UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla and sat in for the CMD at different periods over 4 years. He had also been the Director of Clinical Services, and Board member, UNTH Ituku-Ozalla. He is happily married to Nkiruka Onodugo, a Specialist Dermatologist, and they are blessed with children.

His passion is to see UNTH Ituku Ozalla become the best in West Africa, and a global competitor in health care delivery.
