The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku/Ozalla, Enugu, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Police Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) to provide quality medical care to police personnel.

The signing ceremony, held at the hospital’s boardroom on March 26, 2026, was attended by representatives from both parties, including the Force Medical Director, AIG Nkechi Eze, and the MD/CEO of Police Health Maintenance Limited, Dr. Yusuf Gazali.

Under the agreement, UNTH will provide medical services to police officers, including emergency care for gunshot wounds and accidents

The partnership aims to address the challenges faced by police personnel in accessing medical care, as highlighted by AIG Eze, who noted that many officers are often poorly treated at hospitals.

The Chief Medical Director of UNTH, Prof. Obinna Onodugo, who was represented by the CMAC, Dr. Charles Nonyelu, welcomed the collaboration, expressing confidence that the partnership will be fruitful. The NHIA Enugu State Coordinator, Dr. Ken Ogbu, also assured the Police HMO of UNTH’s capabilities in delivering on the agreement.
