The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) today unveiled a transformed Children’s Emergency Room, courtesy of the family of Emeritus Prof. John Anenechukwu and Emeritus Prof. Rich Ejioke Umeh.

The Umeh family was represented by their two daughters, Dr. Mrs. Nnenna Obiejesi and Dr. Ayika Emenike, who was warmly received by the hospital’s management and staff. In his welcome remark, the Chief Medical Director of UNTH, Prof. Obinna Onodugo, expressed gratitude to the Umeh family for their kindness and generosity. He called on other individuals and organizations to emulate this act of philanthropy, emphasizing the impact it would have on the hospital’s ability to provide quality healthcare services to its patients.

“We are grateful for this gesture, and we hope that it will inspire others to give back to the community,” Prof. Onodugo said. He also announced that another transformed ward would be unveiled next week, highlighting the hospital’s commitment to improving its facilities and services. Prof. Onodugo informed the gathering that the hospital management will soon establish a hall of fame to honour those who are contributing to the development of the hospital.

The head of the Emergency Medicine department, Prof. Tagbo Oguonu, appreciated the Umeh family for their effort, noting that the renovated Children Emergency Room would significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide emergency care to children.

It can be recalled that Prof. Onodugo and his siblings had earlier adopted and transformed the female medical ward of the hospital in the memory of their late parents.

The unveiling ceremony marked another milestone in the hospital’s journey to provide world-class healthcare services to its patients. The transformed Children Emergency Room is a testament to the power of collaboration and the impact that collective efforts can have on improving the lives of others.
