COLLEGE OF NURSING, UNTH 2023 CAPPING AND 2020 INDUCTION CEREMONY: A CELEBRATION of EXCELLENCE AND PROGRESS

The Chief Medical Director, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku/Ozalla, Prof. Obinna Onodugo, has urged the Matriculants of the UNTH College of Nursing to focus on their studies and remain discipline throughout their period of study in their School.
He said this during the 2023 Capping and 2020 Induction of the School, which he attended in the company of the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Joy Eze and the Director of Administration, Mrs Obi Uchenna, on the 13th of July, 2024 at the school premises.

In his words, “I urge you to remain focused and disciplined in your studies.
I assure you, that any inadequacy you might experience, will be minimal compared to the wealth of knowledge you will gain”
Prof. Onodugo who was also the Chief Host of the occasion, also advised the Graduates/Inductees to continue advancing in their careers and specialize in their chosen
field of Nursing, using the “Parable of the Talent” to illustrate his point. He later announced a donation of the sum of Five hundred thousand naira to the School, on behalf of the Management.
Earlier in his opening remarks , the Chairman of the Occasion, Ven. Prof. Ernest Onwuasigwe, emphasized the value of compassion in nursing and pleaded with the graduating students to apply empathy and care in their professional responsibilities, by using the tale of the Good Samaritan.
Mrs. Ebere Okorochukwu, Head of Department, Nursing, expressed her gratitude to the guests, particularly the parents who have supported their children. She highlighted the department’s ongoing commitment to developing the students’ capacities. In her congratulatory speech to the graduates, she praised their ambition and tenacity, reminding them that the department would always be their intellectual home. She encouraged them to stay connected through the SONUNTH Alumni Platform and to give back to their alma mater.
On her own part, the Head of Nursing Department,Mrs. Ebere Okorochukwu, expressed her gratitude to the Management of UNTH. She also thanked SONUNTH Alumni for their steadfast support throughout the years, highlighting in particular the donation of ’32 seater bus that has eased the transportation expenses of the students when going for their postings. Amongst other achievements, the HOD, proudly declared that, UNTH school of Nursing has transitioned, is now known as Department of Nursing, College of Nursing Sciences,UNTH,Enugu.
The highlight of the occasion was when some of the
capping students of 2023 and Graduating set of 2020, who excelled in various subjects and outstanding behavior were recognized and awarded.
Nnachetam Chioma, emerged as the overall best Matriculant, while Amaka Cynthia Okeke came out as the most distinguished and overall best graduating student.
The student’s lively dance performance added colour and excitement to the event. The occasion not only represented an important turning point in the students’ lives, but it also served as a reminder of the College of Nursing’s commitment to quality in both Nursing practice and education.

Overall, the 2023 capping and 2020 induction ceremony was a celebration of progress, achievement, and the unwavering dedication of both the students and the institution to excellence in nursing education and practice.
