The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku Ozalla , Enugu, recently organised a five-day training exercise for her Security personnels on the topic, “MUSKETRY AND THE USE OF FIREARMS IN HOSPITAL SETTING.”

The training, which commenced on 2nd July, 2024 and ended on the 5th, at the Senior Staff Cafeteria, was graced by the CMD, represented by the D A, Mrs. Obi Uchenna, the C(MAC), Prof Joy Eze, represented by Dr Nkiru Nwachukwu (DCMAC), Dr Willy Ukemenam (DCMAC), Pharm. Chinelo Ozumba (Head of Pharmacy), Mrs. Chinwe Obiekwe (Head of Physiotherapy) and Mrs. Eunice Eze (Head of Nursing). Others are, the Ozalla Divisional Police Officer, CSP John Igele , Chief Security Officer of the Hospital, Mr. Cletus Orji, the Hospital Security Consultant and a former DPO, CSP Nelson Chukwudi (retired) and DSP Febian Okoye also (retired)

Speaking in an exclusive interview, the CSO, Mr. Cletus Orji, expressed his appreciation to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Obinna Onodugo for his resilience and timely response to organising the training for his department, especially at this critical time of insecurity challenges in the Nation.

In his words “I sincerely appreciate our Chief Medical Director, Prof. Onodugo, who deemed it necessary that the department be trained for rapid response in case of emergency. Recall that recently, the CMD gave an order to our people to rise up to the challenges of the time”

He further reiterated that, “To curb this menace, the UNTH management, under Prof. Onodugo, has purchased some firearms and registered the hospital with the Enugu State Government, for Neighbourhood Watch in synergy with the Nigerian Police, to help alleviate this scourge within the hospital community”.

In his remark, the representative of the CMD and D A of the Hospital, Mrs. Obi Uchenna, thanked the Federal and Enugu State Government for their support in securing the Hospital, while calling for more.
He also commended the Security Department for their dedication to duty and pleaded with them not to relent.
