Healthcare Services in the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku/Ozalla, Enugu, has been taken to a higher pedestal in terms of ensuring internal quality control for medicines, particularly the antimicrobials that are prescribed for clients in the hospital with the donation of an Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer to the hospital by Commonwealth Partnership for Antimicrobial Stewardship Project Team.
This machine will be deployed for quality control checks of all antimicrobials in UNTH, and in other sister institutions in the southeast that may wish to perform similar quality control on the medicines they use.

The Team which visited the Hospital on Monday, 26th August, had a few days before their visit, delivered the machine to the UNTH Management, through the UNTH Project Lead, Dr Chinenye Onodugo.

In his address to the Management, the leader of the team,
Pharmacist Moshood Lawal said that they were in UNTH to observe the progress of the Project which is focused on strengthening Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Activities and Quality Control of Antimicrobials in Nigeria. He said, “We are also going to make proper assessment & recommendations to improve efficiency” of AMS in this facility.

In her response, the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof Joy Eze, on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Prof Obinna Onodugo, commended the guests for a job well done. In her words, “I thank you for your contributions in various ways, and the positive feedback from your assessment of the project. Our system is ready to give you all the support that you needed for the success of the project”. Watch the interview video here

She made reference to the equipment that have been donated for the project and promised that UNTH is going to set a pace for others to follow and can’t accept anything less than excellence in service.
