The School of Health Information Management, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, held its matriculation ceremony for Set 2024 and induction ceremony for Set 2022 on August 2, 2025, at the UNTH Old Site.

The Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Agu Polycarp Uchenna, CEO of Enugu State Hospital Management Board, was represented by Dr. Mrs. Ezeudu Chinyere, Director of Medical Services, State Hospital Management Board. In her remarks, she highlighted the state government’s efforts in digitalizing health information and charged the inductees to take their profession to the state level, where it is mostly needed.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Obinna Onodugo, represented by the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Joy Eze, encouraged the newly admitted students and inductees to embrace hard work and commitment to attract recognition from the hospital management and beyond. She emphasized the importance of handling health data with utmost care, given the nature of Health Information Management.

The Acting Principal of the School, Okonkwo Nneka, in her address, reminded the matriculants that the essence of gaining admission into the school is to build themselves in character and learning, graduate with excellence, and positively impact their environment by offering quality healthcare services. To the graduands, she said, “Through the great support and encouragement from your lecturers, families, and friends, you have been found worthy in both character and learning and will be inducted to practice Health Information Management as professionals. As you graduate and start your career, remember that the School of Health Information Management, UNTH, is forever your intellectual home, and we hope you will stay in touch with the school.”

The SoutheastZonal Coordinator of the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria, Chief Nwangwu Agina Kingsley, led the prospective health officers in the Oath Declaration. The Matriculation Oath declaration for the matriculants was led by the immediate past principal of the school, Mrs. Eze Abigail.

Highlights of the occasion included the presentation of awards to the five best graduating students of ND and HND, who excelled academically; the cutting of cake; cultural troupe performances; and the donation of a brand new Public Address System by the 2022 Set Inductees to the school as a mark of appreciation and love. This gesture will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the institution.

The occasion drew attendees from all walks of life, including UNTH Director of Administration Mrs. Uche Obi, Prof. Ignatius Maduka, HOD School of Medical Laboratory Sciences, UNTH Enugu, professionals, lecturers, students, staff, and parents.
